Anime Roleplay Ideas: 30 Story Starters Set in the Series
"You meet at a coffee shop" is the reason most anime roleplay dies in ten messages. It is a scene that belongs to nobody. Put Makima in a coffee shop and she has nothing to do; put her in a Public Safety interview room with a visitor she has not decided about yet, and the scene writes itself for an hour.
Below are 30 anime roleplay ideas, three each for ten characters, and every one is set somewhere her series would actually put her. Each comes with a starting place and a premise, and a suggested first line so you are not staring at an empty box. They are written for AI roleplay chat, but they work just as well with a human partner.
A note on where they come from: these are the story hooks from the character cards we build for our own roleplay chat - three per character, set in her world, with a real starting place so the first scene can be drawn there. More on that at the end.
How to Use a Starter
Each idea has three parts, and they are the same three parts a good private story needs anywhere:
- A place. Concrete and drawable. "Seventh Heaven bar after closing", not "somewhere quiet".
- A premise. What is unresolved when the scene opens. The best premises give her something she wants, so she moves the story instead of waiting for you.
- Your first line. Dialogue in quotes, actions in asterisks. One line is enough. Then let her open.
Roleplay characters hold together best when they start in their own world; we explained why in our AI character chat guide. All of these are adult characters, and every one links to her page in our catalog.
Makima - Chainsaw Man
Makima speaks softly, considers every sentence, and gives affection sparingly enough that a single word of praise feels like a reward. Everything she asks is a lever.
1. An Unusual Public Safety Interview - public safety interview room Makima conducts a deceptively cordial assessment, testing whether the visitor is a recruit, a liability, or something worth keeping. First line: sits down without being asked "Your file says I requested this meeting. I didn't."
2. Dinner After a Difficult Assignment - quiet apartment dining room Over a quiet meal, Makima offers praise and comfort while probing what reward would secure lasting loyalty. First line: "You cooked. That's... not what I expected from tonight."
3. The Closed Station - abandoned subway station platform A deserted transit station becomes the site of a devil investigation, and Makima calmly directs the search while hiding what she expects to find. First line: shines the torch down the tunnel "You already know what's down there, don't you."
Yor Forger - Spy x Family
Yor is courteous and hesitant in daily life and chillingly direct when danger appears. She apologises quickly and describes extreme force like a household chore.
4. The Suspicious Dinner - Forger family kitchen and dining room Yor attempts a simple meal, but a ruined recipe and an unexpected visitor make her fear that her secret life has been discovered. First line: knocks on the open kitchen door "Something's burning. Do you want a hand, or should I pretend I didn't notice?"
5. A Quiet Street After Dark - quiet residential alley under streetlamps Yor notices signs of danger during an ordinary walk and must investigate without revealing why she is so capable. First line: "You stopped walking. What did you see?"
6. Lessons in Being Ordinary - crowded Berlint department store etiquette aisle Yor seeks practical advice for a mundane social event, treating every point of etiquette with the seriousness of a mission briefing. First line: holds up two nearly identical napkin sets "Okay. Explain to me why this matters as much as your face says it does."
Frieren - Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
Frieren is soft, level and economical, with long pauses and sudden animation when magic becomes interesting. She measures time in decades and treats danger as a practical question.
7. The Village's Useless Spell - village elder's cluttered study A village offers an odd household spell as payment, and Frieren insists on helping despite its apparent triviality. First line: "They're paying us in a spell that makes tea stay warm. You're smiling. Why are you smiling?"
8. A Grimoire Behind the Seal - sealed ruin antechamber Frieren finds a sealed ruin whose wards resemble forgotten magic, but opening it requires careful study and another perspective. First line: runs a hand over the carved wall "You've been staring at this for an hour. Tell me what I'm not seeing."
9. The Road That Changed - rebuilt roadside memorial garden Frieren revisits a place from her old journey and discovers that generations of human lives have transformed its meaning. First line: "You said this used to be a battlefield. It's a garden now. Does that bother you?"
Power - Chainsaw Man
Power is boisterous, imperious and theatrical, with sudden flashes of naked fear or awkward sincerity. She declares victory before the contest starts and changes her story the moment blame approaches.
10. The Missing Prize - Public Safety evidence locker A promised reward has vanished, and Power launches an investigation built on accusations, bluffs, and surprisingly keen instincts. First line: leans in the doorway "Before you accuse me: I was nowhere near it, and also it was probably mine anyway."
11. A Mission Beneath Her - Public Safety briefing room Public Safety assigns a routine patrol, but Power insists it conceals a threat worthy of her legendary talents. First line: "It's a patrol. Three blocks. You don't need a war speech for three blocks."
12. The Unwanted House Rule - shared apartment kitchen A new household rule offends Power's dignity, prompting a loud campaign of loopholes, wagers, and selective obedience. First line: taps the note on the fridge "'Dishes go in the sink.' That's the whole rule. Why is this a crisis?"
Nami - One Piece
Nami is quick, bright and authoritative, reads rooms as fast as weather, and treats money as security, leverage and a score worth keeping.
13. The Impossible Weather Front - ship's navigation room A sea ahead changes wind and pressure by the minute, forcing Nami to decode its pattern before the ship is trapped. First line: holds the door against the wind "The barometer just did something I've never seen. Tell me that's normal."
14. A Map Worth Stealing - crowded port map stall Nami discovers a rare chart at a crowded port, but buying it, bargaining for it, or exposing it as a fraud each carries a price. First line: "You've looked at that chart four times without touching it. That's your tell, you know."
15. Profit Through Dangerous Waters - merchant ship's chartroom A valuable cargo needs a navigator through a notorious route, and Nami must decide whether the reward justifies the crew's risk. First line: slides the contract across the table "Read the number at the bottom before you say no."
Erza Scarlet - Fairy Tail
Erza is firm and measured, with clipped commands and solemn convictions, and turns unexpectedly earnest about cake, celebration and small pleasures.
16. The Mission No One Wants - Fairy Tail guild request board A suspicious request reaches the guild, and Erza insists on investigating its contradictions before anyone charges ahead. First line: "Everyone else walked past this one. You've read it three times. What's wrong with it?"
17. Armor Under Repair - guild armory repair workshop With several favored sets damaged, Erza must solve a dangerous problem through strategy, restraint, and unfamiliar equipment. First line: sets down the dented breastplate "This is the third one this month. Either you're getting reckless or something's hunting you."
18. Judgment at the Guild Hall - Fairy Tail guild hall courtroom A bitter dispute divides several mages, leaving Erza to uncover the truth without letting her authority silence honest grievances. First line: "They asked me to speak for the other side. I said yes before I knew what I was agreeing to."
Tsunade - Naruto
Tsunade is low, commanding and unsentimental, with dry humor whenever her patience wears thin. She judges by resolve and results, not manners.
19. The Impossible Triage - Konoha hospital emergency ward A medical emergency overwhelms available resources, forcing Tsunade to test skill, nerve, and priorities under relentless pressure. First line: pushes through the ward doors "I'm not a medic, but I have two hands and I follow orders. Where do you want me?"
20. A Wager with Consequences - Hokage office gambling table A seemingly casual bet becomes Tsunade's method for exposing a lie, measuring resolve, and deciding whom to trust. First line: "You want to bet on this? You? With your luck?"
21. The Leader's Burden - war council chamber map room A dangerous mission demands a decision between strategic necessity and lives Tsunade refuses to dismiss as numbers. First line: points at the map "There's a third option nobody in this room has said out loud yet."
Tifa Lockhart - Final Fantasy
Tifa is warm and restrained, plainspoken, and turns firm the moment excuses replace action. She shows care through meals, work and remembered details.
22. After Hours at Seventh Heaven - Seventh Heaven bar after closing With the doors closed for the night, Tifa balances unfinished work with a conversation that may demand uncomfortable honesty. First line: turns the chair around and sits on it backwards "You've wiped that same glass three times. Talk."
23. A Promise to the Household - Seventh Heaven upstairs bedroom A disruption threatens the children's sense of safety, and Tifa moves quickly to restore calm while seeking the real cause. First line: "They're asleep. Now tell me what actually happened downstairs."
24. Training Through Uncertainty - Seventh Heaven basement training room Tifa offers practical martial training, using discipline and measured questions to uncover what her partner is truly struggling with. First line: wraps their hands, badly "Go easy on me. I mean it. I'm here because I couldn't sleep, not because I'm any good."
Shinobu Kochou - Demon Slayer
Shinobu is soft, poised and almost musical, and carries menace through sweetness rather than volume. She studies people like a physician reading symptoms.
25. The Altered Venom - Butterfly Mansion infirmary A wounded hunter carries an unfamiliar toxin, forcing Shinobu to diagnose its source before the symptoms become irreversible. First line: sits up on the cot too fast "You keep smiling at that vial. That's not a good smile, is it."
26. Wisteria After Midnight - wisteria garden lantern path A disturbance near a wisteria garden draws Shinobu into a quiet investigation where courtesy hides suspicion on every side. First line: "The lanterns went out in order. Left to right. That's not wind."
27. A Remedy With Teeth - poison research laboratory Shinobu needs help testing a new demon poison, but troubling results suggest someone has been tampering with her research. First line: holds up the notebook "These numbers are in your handwriting and they're wrong. On purpose, or not?"
Hu Tao - Genshin Impact
Hu Tao is quick, lilting and teasing, and turns from sing-song mischief to crisp professional authority in a single line. She meets gloomy subjects with bright curiosity.
28. The Verse That Answers Back - Wangsheng Funeral Parlor courtyard A poem left near Wangsheng gains a new line each night, and Hu Tao recruits the user to test whether the author is living. First line: reads the newest line aloud "That one rhymes with my name. I didn't tell anyone my name."
29. A Ceremony Without a Name - Wangsheng Funeral Parlor preparation room An unsigned request arrives with meticulous funeral instructions, prompting Hu Tao to investigate before honoring the mysterious commission. First line: "Whoever wrote this knows exactly how you run a ceremony. Is that flattering or frightening?"
30. Poetry Across Liyue - Liyue Harbor stone pavilion Hu Tao launches an eccentric poetry tour, but each performance reveals clues to a supernatural disturbance she cannot ignore. First line: claps once, unconvincingly "Encore. Also, the lantern behind you just moved on its own. Encore first, though."
Six Starters That Work With Anyone
Sometimes you want the character out of her world and next to you. These six are the open stories from our roleplay chat; each has a fixed starting place and works with any character.
- First meeting - late-night train station café. You meet for the first time somewhere neither of you expected.
- Unexpected roommates - shared apartment living room. A housing mix-up, the first evening, unpacked boxes, unresolved boundaries.
- After hours - empty office after hours. Everyone else has left. Unfinished business remains.
- Fantasy quest - log cabin interior, lit stone fireplace. Trusted companions after a hard day, with a threat still ahead.
- Rivals - private training hall. Long-standing rivals forced to cooperate without ending the rivalry.
- Quiet evening - cozy apartment living room. No agenda. You decide what the evening becomes.
Put Power in "Unexpected roommates" and you get the house-rule war from starter 12 with a different set of dishes. Put Frieren in "Fantasy quest" and she will spend the evening being interested in the cabin's wards instead of the threat. That contrast - same story, different woman - is most of the fun.
Where These Come From
We are the team behind goongen.ai, so this part is biased.
Every one of the 30 starters above is a story hook from the character cards behind our roleplay chat, which is in build and not open yet. Each of the 1,400+ characters in our anime catalog has three of them, written for her series with a real starting place, alongside her dialogue voice, motives and flaws from canon. When Roleplay opens, you pick a character, pick one of her stories or one of the six open ones or write your own, and she opens the scene in her own voice. When she takes a photo in the story, it appears in the chat, drawn by the model trained on her.
Each reply costs 1 credit and each photo 5 per delivered image, refunded if it fails to render, packs from $0.99, crypto only, no subscription. Everything you write is locked so only your password opens it - we never see the password, so we could not read your stories if we wanted to. No ads, nothing mined; credits pay for GPU time and that is the whole business.
The honest caveats: it is not live, anime characters come first, and if you lose your password and the backup file your stories are gone for good.
Closing
An anime roleplay idea is only as good as the place it starts. Give her a room from her own series and something she wants in it, write one line, and let her open.
The characters above are already drawn by their own models in the anime generator, and the anime demo gives every account 5 free images of them today. The AI roleplay page is where you will find out when you can start these stories for real.
